Disney has released a video tutorial on how to make a “parol” (lantern) just days after it featured Filipino traditions in a heartwarming Christmas ad.
“Give your home a magical makeover with these enchanting parols, inspired by our Christmas ad!” it said on its Facebook page on Nov. 14, alongside the video.
The nearly two-minute tutorial uses 10 sticks, 10 rubber bands, 5 dowels, string, glue, scissors, colored paper, a glue gun and a plate. After putting together the wooden frame of the star-shaped lantern, one can then decorate it using the color paper. Disney also encourages its viewers to leave a hole in the back of the parol to fit a battery-powered light.
The video delighted many Filipino fans and went viral online with over 10,000 reactions and more than 1,700 comments, as of writing. Among the comments were messages of gratitude from Filipinos for featuring a part of the Philippines’ Christmas traditions.
Though the holidays may be different this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, parol makers in San Fernando, Pampanga, continue to keep the tradition alive. The city has also been dubbed as the country’s Christmas capital. /ra
