Enchong Dee, who portrays the writer Julio Manunulat in Treb Monteras’ 5-part documentary “Trip to Quiapo,” said that if he could rewrite a portion of his life it would have to be the part where he chose to become an actor.

“I’m not saying this to mean that I’ve made the wrong decision. It’s just a part of my life that I feel is worth exploring: ‘What have I ended up becoming had I not become an actor? Where could I be now? Would I still be living in the Philippines or have I already migrated elsewhere?’ It would be interesting to write about this aspect of my life. When I do, I’d base my writing on my personality, as well as my values and my truth,” he explained.

As to whether Enchong has plans to pursue creative writing in the future, the extremely outspoken actor said: “I think one of the many challenges that writers face daily is how to believe in one’s self or kumpiyansa sa sarili. I also feel that I’m not as passionate about writing as I should be.

“Sir Ricky (Lee, author of the book ‘Trip to Quiapo’) said everyone can write. I wish I have that option; I wish I could tell you that whatever I’m doing right now has a bigger purpose to it. It just so happened that I’m more passionate about expressing my opinion on the sociopolitical issues that the country is facing now more than collecting experiences and making a book out of it.”
