Nov. 3 ought to be declared a national holiday for Vilmanians because it’s the birthday of our beloved Ate Vi (Vilma Santos-Recto).
She continues to defy time by not looking nor feeling her age at all. I remember when Ate Vi turned 60, she said in jest, “I refuse to claim my senior citizen card because I can still afford to pay even without discount.”
I greeted her via text, and this was her reply: “Just had a simple birthday celebration at home. My family gave me flowers and sweet messages. Wala ngang kisses kasi bawal (laughs). No more lavish gifts. Iba na ang panahon ngayon. As long as everybody in the family is healthy, perfect gift na ‘yun. With all the warm birthday greetings from friends like you, complete na ang birthday ko. Thank you Lord for the gift of life. Love you, Dolly.”
The Star for All Seasons grows more lovable through every Nov. 3rd of her “la vida bongga.”
Isabel Rivas on Michele Gumabao
Michele Gumabao has said her piece about the Miss Universe Philippines (MUP) brouhaha. Check it out on her Instagram @gumabaomichele.
I asked Michele’s fab tita, Isabel Rivas, for her sentiments about the controversial issue. Here goes: “I can’t comment about it because I don’t know the whole story yet. They already had a close-in meeting, and I believe they have settled their issues.
“Our ever-understanding Michele already joined the MUP group for “kawanggawa” (charity) work for the typhoon victims. Michele will not join any pageant any more. The family talked to her about it, and she agreed. She will pursue her sports newscasting, teaching and plans to become a lawyer, aside from being a psychology major.”
Even before she became a beauty queen, Michele was already a star in the volleyball world. So, she knows how to keep soaring on and off the court. Whether in stilettos or rubber shoes, Michele rules.
Aga takes back control of private life
Aga Muhlach and I go a long way back. Fame has not changed him a bit. Even if we don’t see each other often, our bond has remained intact. Being wonderful is his forte.
Just want to share Ags’ recent message to me: “Hi Dolls. Just went back to messenger two weeks ago. No more FB na ako. Just went back to IG recently, but not so active na rin talaga. It’s been so nice and peaceful, actually. Nakaka-miss din minsan, kaya I’m glad that I was able to take control again of what we call ‘our private lives.’
“Grabe, these are strange times, but well, strange din naman tayo, Dolls. Strange, but in a cool way. In other words, lukaret tayo (laughs). I’ll invite you soon to my new house. My family and I love you. From the heart ‘yan.”
I totally agree with Ags. We must all take a “social media detox” from time to time. Turn those gadgets off and live on!
