Miss Universe Philippines 2017 Rachel Peters has adopted a new dog that was rescued from death row at a Bulacan pound.
The Filipina-British beauty queen is now the fur mom of rescue dog Milo from Pawssion Project, as seen on the animal welfare organization’s Instagram post on Nov. 4.
“Our Bulacan pound rescue Milo definitely living her best life now with mommy Rachel Peters,” the said non-profit posted.
The post came with several photos and video clips of Milo, including some of her already bonding with the beauty queen.
“How beautiful it is to witness happy endings of our own rescues. Imagine, she should have been dead by now. But look at her now. What a blessing!” the foundation said. “We can all do something. Adopt and save a life.”
“She rode a plane for the first time today and loved it!! She also came and did relief efforts today in Camsur,” Peters said as quoted by Pawssion Project.
Milo has joined the pitbull Batman as the newest member of Peters’ fur family.
Peters adopted Milo during her birthday celebration at the Pawssion Project shelter on Oct. 29, the organization’s founder Malou Perez revealed on Facebook the next day. Peters turned 29 on Oct. 20.
“Yesterday, Rachel Peters celebrated her birthday at the shelter and who would have thought that Milo would celebrate her new birthday that day as well?? Milo has been adopted!!” Perez announced.
“She’s such a sweet sweet baby and we cannot wait to see her beautiful life with her new mommy, Rachel! Thank you so much for choosing to celebrate with the rescues, and most importantly, thank you for giving rescues like Milo a chance,” she added.
Pawssion Project on Oct. 15 revealed that 100 dogs and a number of cats were on “death row” because they have been staying at the City of San Jose Del Monte (SJDM) pound for over a month.
They initially planned to adopt only 30 of the 100 dogs as their shelter, which is also located in SJDM. They raised enough funds to pay for all dogs’ adoption fee of P500 for each one.
As of Oct. 30, only 26 dogs were left at the city pound after Pawssion Project rescued a total of 49 dogs, newborn puppies and a number of cats. Almost all of the animals at the shelter have already been reserved for adoption.
Those interested in adopting a dog can visit Pawssion Project’s shelter and undergo a screening process.
Perez told INQUIRER.net last month that those who want to get a dog directly from the pound can contact them first so the organization can cover the adoption fee.
The organization encourages people to adopt the animals they rescue and rehabilitate to give them a new home. Perez founded Pawssion Project back in October 2018 after it rescued dogs in Bacolod set to be killed by gunshot. NVG
