Musician Kris Lawrence has been transforming designer bags – such as Louis Vuitton and Gucci – into fashionable face masks and chest bags amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lawrence, known as the “Philippines’ Prince of R&B,” has been buying the luxury bags and using the materials to create new products for his new business venture, he shared in an interview in ABS-CBN’s “Magandang Buhay” episode on Nov. 3.

“What I do is bumibili ako ng mga luxury bags tapos sinisira ko. Tapos gumagawa ako ng mga face masks and bags, mga chest bags,” the singer explained. (What I do is I buy luxury bags and I break it apart. Then I make face masks and chest bags from the materials.)

Aside from earning extra income for his family, Lawrence noted that he was also able to give jobs to sewers who lost work during the lockdown.

“I have a friend that has a company and iyong mga sewer niya, nawalan din ng trabaho (my friend’s sewers lost their jobs). So, since we’re going into the new normal, if we’re gonna stay safe, we might as well be swaggy and look stylish, di ba (right)?” he said.

“So we gave a lot of jobs to the sewers. Nabigyan namin ng trabaho iyong mga sewers na nawalan ng trabaho (We gave work to the sewers who lost their jobs) so they can sew our new PPEs so everybody’s safe,” Lawrence added.

Aside from the said business, the R&B artist has also started a Cavite-based courier service named after his son, J&Lyric Express.

Lawrence explained in the morning show that he tried his hand in these business ventures because income fell due to the global health crisis. JB
