It is high time the spotlight be focused also on our indie bands and solo artists. They do form a deep well of diverse and amazing talents in the local scene. I will be showcasing once in a while an indie band or solo artist that to my mind deserves a look and more attention. So below, let’s get to know Jannah Bocatiya.

1. What/who inspired you to get into music?
Jannah Bocatiya: I came from a family of musicians and I grew up in an environment that would always sing along and create music whenever we had the chance. They are really the ones who inspired me to get into music.
2. What/who are your musical influences?
Jannah Bocatiya: Growing up, I have learned to appreciate the beauty of different genres of music and that is because of the wonderful artists that influenced me. I would say Regine Velasquez, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, just to name a few, are my musical influences.

3. Can you describe your style of music to the unfamiliar?
Jannah Bocatiya: To be honest, I am still exploring my style of music. I do enjoy singing pop music, ballads, R&B and soul music.
4. What do you think of the current local scene?
Jannah Bocatiya: It is without a doubt that all or if not, a lot of artists are having a hard time during this pandemic but despite that, musicians still make a way to make it into the music scene. We try to maximize the use of social media in promoting ourselves and our music.
5. Who is Jannah Bocatiya in a nutshell?
Jannah Bocatiya: An ambitious soul with an ambivert personality that loves to sing and make my family happy.
