MANILA, Philippines — Veteran TV and stage director Al Quinn has passed away. He was 86.
Entertainment writer and manager Noel Ferrer said his farewell to Quinn, whose real name is Alcuin Pastrano, in an Instagram post.
“WOKE UP TO THIS SAD NEWS ABOUT TITO AL QUINN,” Ferrer said in an Instagram post, where he shared photos of Quinn with the late Comedy King Dolphy and Ryan Agoncillo.
“Back in the day when I was doing writing for TV specials – awards nights, pageants, tributes, etc, I have worked with this very cool, funny and respected director we loving call Tito Al Quinn,” Ferrer reminisced.
“REST IN PEACE TITO AL!!! Thank you for being a happy part of my 30 Years In Media!!!” he added.
Lea Salonga, in a Facebook post, also bid goodbye to the director.
“Rest In Peace, Tito Al Quinn. I’m thankful you were one of the directors I got to work with as a child,” she said. “Your kindness as well as your professionalism are what I’ll always remember.”
Quinn’s cause of death, however, has not been disclosed as of writing.
Before embarking onto the world of directing for stage and TV, Quinn started out as a dancer and choreographer at the Manila Opera House.
It was late actor Pancho Magalona who suggested the name “Al Quinn.” Magalona also discovered the director when he saw the former’s jazz group.
Quinn’s works include the “The Good Father” and “Jack and Jill and John,” both released in 1975.
Quinn was also a painter, as he took up Fine Arts at the University of Santo Tomas.
