CEBU CITY—The whale sharks of Oslob town has attracted so much attention, they will now “star” in a movie by internationally acclaimed Filipino filmmaker Brillante “Dante” Mendoza. The crew and actors of the indie film “Thy Womb” were in Oslob recently to shoot the Philippine seas’ “gentle giants.”

In an interview, Mendoza told the Inquirer he wanted a scene with the butanding to showcase local culture. However, 95 percent of the movie, which stars Nora Aunor, Bembol Roco and Mercedes Cabral, is set in Tawi-Tawi.

Mendoza said it is a dream come true: “I usually work with nonprofessional actors. For the first time, I have big-time actors.”—Edison A. Delos Angeles
