MANILA, Philippines — Actress Julia Barretto has shut down rumors of her being pregnant, supposedly with actor Gerald Anderson, by showing a photo of her toned abdomen in her Instagram page.
Barretto, seen wearing white pants and a grey bralette that exposes her mid riff, captioned the post with the words “fake news,” apparently to dismiss speculations of her being pregnant.
Former broadcaster and administration supporter Jay Sonza earlier posted something about Barretto’s alleged pregnancy, claiming that the actress and Anderson “proved that they were not barren.”
Barretto’s relatives including sisters Dani and Claudia, as well as friends and other celebrities like Liza Soberano, Miles Ocampo, and Alex Gonzaga shunned the issue, saying that it is how baseless allegations should be answered.
“Shut it down sis! Love you!” Dani said in her comment.
As of now, the phrase “Leave Julia Barretto Alone” is trending on Twitter with Jay Sonza’s name, as over 3,200 tweets have been made about the topic.
Netizens have condemned Sonza for his post, with several of Barretto’s supporters and other women rights advocates urging her to file a case against the former mediaman. Others on the other hand ridiculed Sonza for insinuating that a woman with a flat tummy is pregnant.

Anderson and Barretto drew controversy in 2019 after Anderson and his former girlfriend actress Bea Alonzo broke up, with people pointing at Barretto as the culprit. However, both Anderson and Barretto denied the accusations.
