She was dropped for someone else.
This was the simple, if rough, reason Kris Aquino’s television comeback went kaput.
In a recent Instagram post, the loquacious show biz personality broke her silence, and gave her followers the “honest truth” about her thwarted plans and dashed hopes.
“My hoped-for TV comeback isn’t happening; the producer chose somebody else that he and his sales team felt was more viable,” wrote Kris, who didn’t name the person or the company she was dealing with. “No sugarcoating from me.”
Her supposed talk show, “Love Life with Kris,” which was to air as a blocktimer on TV5, was beset by postponements until it was ultimately scrapped. It was reportedly set to air on July 25, and then Aug 15, and then … nothing.
“This is a life update I wish I didn’t have to make. But it’s something I’m facing up to in order to truthfully move on,” she said.
Kris’ confession also confirmed TV5’s earlier comments that then seesawing fate of the television host-actress’ program was out of its hands. In fact, the network’s head of programming Perci Intalan said he and his colleagues were looking forward to having Kris in their turf, and was only waiting for her and her producer’s green light.
“As far as we’re concerned, Kris is very much welcome on TV5… I think there are a few things that they need to fix from their side, because TV5 isn’t producing the show—it’s actually produced externally,” he said in a virtual press conference last month.
“We will just wait for them to be ready,” he said then. “But again, as far as we’re concerned, we will gladly welcome her.”
But looking at the picture, Kris still considers herself “fortunate.”
While her visibility on mainstream media remains in the doldrums, Kris is thankful that she and her family are healthy, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, which almost got to them.
In the same Instagram update, Kris related that four people who had “close and regular contact” with his son Bimby had all tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the middle of August. “It was a scary month … three of them have recovered. One is still battling this cruel virus,” she related.
Kris and Bimby were swab tested on Aug. 15. Her elder son, Josh, on the other hand, was “thankfully” wasn’t “at risk,” because he and his companions were staying in Tarlac at the time of Bimby’s exposure.
Given her and Bimby’s pre-existing health concerns, it’s a miracle that they didn’t get infected.
“Bimb has asthma. I have my autoimmune conditions. Yet, we both tested negative, even though we had sustained contact and are high-risk individuals,” said Kris, who, nonetheless, “strictly isolated for two weeks” and availed of an antibody test for good measure.
“We had Eclia tests done to be sure that we weren’t asymptomatic and, again, we were negative,” Kris said. “In the big picture of life, we’re still fortunate.”
For now, her and her family’s health is the top priority. The television comeback can wait.
“I would like to believe I’m now a glass-half-full type of person. I no longer wish to focus on that’s not given. Rather, I’m so very grateful for the blessings. And yes, our health is the most precious one. I continue to have faith and there will be opportunities—all in God’s perfect timing,” Kris said.
