Derek Ramsay in remake of FPJ’s ‘Totoy Bato’

DEREK Ramsay

Now that Derek Ramsay has moved to TV 5, do he and his girlfriend, Angelica Panganiban (who’s with ABS-CBN) swap Network inside stories?

“Nope,” he said. “Angel and I don’t get involved with each other’s careers. When we’re together, work takes a backseat.”

How does he feel that he will no longer do the movie slated for him and Bea Alonzo? “I regret that,” he sighed. “But I understand and respect Star Cinema’s decision.”

Although the remake of “Totoy Bato,” which he has been tapped for, more than makes up for the shelved project at ABS-CBN, Derek said, “I’m nervous because it’s an FPJ classic. I’m going to watch all his films to prepare for it. But I’ll try to add a little of my own style to the role, so I must be in shape.”

As if Derek is ever out of shape! The Box-Office King is dead set to do a Da King. Let his abs do the talking! Flaunt it!

Sarah in a quandary?

It was probably in the spirit of fun that Sarah Geronimo endorsed “Ukay-Ukay RTW” of Bambang Market in the “Sige Go” segment of “Sarah G Live” last Sunday. But the people behind her long-standing RTW multimillion-peso endorsement deal with Unica Hija must not have been amused. Perhaps Sarah only followed the “Ukay” spiel given to her to cultivate her masa appeal, but what about the fab billboards? And the all-out campaign that is being cooked up for her and supermodel Charo Ronquillo, which will be launched soon? What’s it gonna be, Sarah? U for Unica Hija or for Ukay Ukay? The Pop Princess must live up to the brand’s name and make it her ‘unico’ endorsement.

Aljur’s show flops

My Dubai-based friend told me that Aljur Abrenica’s show there was a flop. Aljur sang well but less than 200 people watched his show at Chi Lounge on the first night. It was free admission on the second, but still no audience. The producers should have mounted the show in Club 7 or Boracay Lounge, which are the popular venues for Filipinos in the United Arab Emirates. And they should have promoted the show more. It’s unfortunate that performers such as Aljur travel so far to bring cheer to our kababayans abroad but end up in need of cheer when their show doesn’t click.

PLDT’s Telpad

PLDT Telpad has linked its innovative tablet landline service with the rising stars of Fame Factory, a company that aims to go “beyond artist management.” It is the world’s first tablet landline with unlimited local calls, unlimited Internet, and exclusive PLDT content, such as the popular “TelMeHow” application.

In terms of embodying the youthful spirit of the tech-savvy teen, the Fame Factory talents make an ideal match. They will likely be used as models for new content in TelMeHow. Abel Estanislao is a guitar protégé; Kate Alejandro is a theater scholar with a strong background in the performing arts; Jake Señeres can talk about health and fitness; Anika Gonzalez is a trained dancer; and Rollo Espinos is a qualified culinary arts practitioner, so they can all TelMeHow to do something engaging and worthwhile. Tease and Tell!
