MANILA, Philippines — Sunshine Dizon has had enough of remaining silent and aired her thoughts about the priorities of the government at a time when the Philippine faces the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
In an Instagram post on Monday — the day President Rodrigo Duterte delivered his fifth State of the Nation Address — Dizon asked about the government’s concrete plan to beat the virus as the country’s cases continue to surge.
“Araw araw tumataas ang bilang ng may mga sakit dahil sa covid. Nasaan na ang kongkretong plano para sa bayan? Wala pa rin mass testing,” she said.

The actress then lambasted those in power for prioritizing the shutdown of ABS-CBN and passing the anti-terror law.
“Matagal na din ako nanahimik, sinabi ko din na kung wala magandang sasabihin manahimik na lang pero mas malaking kasalanan ang mag bulagbulagan kung alam mo ng hindi na tama,” she said.
[I have been silent for so long; I have also said that if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say anything at all. But it’s a bigger sin to stay being blind when you know it’s not right anymore.]
Dizon added that she was not afraid of losing friends after airing her thoughts.
“Gusto ko pong mamuhay sa Pilipinas kasama ng aking mga anak, pamilya at mga kaibigan ng payapa at walang takot na may mga tao na matatas at makapangyarihan na pwedeng abusuhin ang batas na dapat ay poprotekta sa ating lahat,” the actress and mother of two expressed.
[I want to live in the Philippines with my children, family and friends with freedom and without fearing people who are in charge and have the power to abuse the law that should protect us all.]
She then said about the anti-terror law: “Sumasang ayon ako sa batas na poprotekta sa ating lahat laban sa terrorismo pero hindi ako sang ayon sa batas na hindi malinaw na posibleng ma abuso sa mga kamay ng mga taong nakatataas at makapangyarihan na pansariling pakinabang lang ang uunahin.”
[I agree with a law that will protect us from terrorism, but I don’t agree with a law that is not clear and that may be abused under the hands of those in power, who only think of their self-interests.]
Dizon then urged everyone not to be blinded anymore.
“Wag na tayong mag bulagbulagan kailangan nating ipag laban ang ating kalayan at protekatahan ang ating karapatang pantao.”
[Let us stop being blind, we need to fight for our freedom and protect our human rights.]
