Sharon Cuneta criticized the government’s COVID-19 response after Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque stated that it was “working.”
Roque made the remark last Friday, July 17, as the number of cases reached 63,000, breaching an earlier projection of 60,000 by the end of the month. Following Roque’s claim, the Megastar addressed him via an Instagram post last Sunday, July 19.
“Sir, WHAT is WORKING?!” Cuneta asked while sharing a post by INQUIRER.net on Malacañang’s defense of the government’s response against the coronavirus.
“We see the numbers rise [every day]. The hospitals are overflowing with COVID-19 patients like never before,” she joined out. “We still don’t have enough [t]est [k]its.”
Cuneta then noted that the government has not “been managing this health crisis effectively” before questioning the government’s priorities.
“Surely the health of all Filipinos amidst this [g]lobal [p]andemic should have taken priority over things like the Anti-Terrorism Bill, the hearings and eventual denial of the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN, and the idea of renaming NAIA,” she said.
“Now?!!! Our attention can no longer be diverted from COVID-19 by ANYTHING else our leaders may think up next,” Cuneta stated.
She then appealed to Roque to “save our people first” and urged him to tell the public the truth.
There are more than 68,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, as of yesterday, July 20. According to the Department of Health, 1,835 have died due to the disease, while over 23,000 have recovered.
Meanwhile, hospitals such as St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City and Bonifacio Global City, the Makati Medical Center and the Medical City have reached full capacity of COVID-19 alloted beds. /ra
