Michael V. tests positive for COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — Comedian Michael V. has tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

He announced the development in his vlog on Monday, which showed a somewhat gloomy “Bitoy”, the comedian’s TV character who usually exudes a cheerful vibe.

In the video, Michael V. showed the document of the result of his swab test showing that he tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

“That’s it, positive. It’s just as what we suspected early on,” he said.

“We’ll get through this. We’ve been through worse. Sobrang namimiss ko na ‘yung pamilya ko (I miss my family so much),” the comedian added.

Before receiving his positive test result on Saturday, July 18, Michael V. also documented his quarantine journey since he started exhibiting flu-like symptoms and lost his sense of smell.

He also shared how difficult it was to be isolated from his family as part of precautionary measures against COVID-19.

“Honestly, I am worried not just for myself kundi pati sa pamilya ko (but also for my family). With your prayers and God’s help, I think we can go through this. I think it’s gonna be okay,” the  teary-eyed comedian said on his 4th day of isolation.

“Nakakainis lang isipin na ang lapit lapit nila, nasa kabilang kwarto lang, and yet hindi mo sila mayakap. Hindi mo sila mahalikan. I feel bad, but hopefully we will get through this and hopefully everything will be okay,” he went on saying.

(It’s frustrating because they are so near, they are just in the adjacent room but you cannot hug them. You cannot kiss them.)

Despite this, the Kapuso genius still managed to crack a joke as is his custom. He said he was worried as the virus, since it is on the nasal area, was near his brain.

“Sabi pa naman ng iba masustansya ‘yung utak ko, mataba ‘yung utak ko. Baka pagpiyestahan ng mga virus eh,” he said in jest.

He went through a swab test on the fifth day of his quarantine.

On his sixth day of isolation, he again shed tears over not being able to go near his family members for consecutive days.

“At the end of the day, narealize mo na lumipas na naman ang isang araw na mag-isa ka, but then again you look at it in a different perspective. Alam mong tomorrow is another day and malay mo bukas tapos na ito,” said Bitoy.

(At the end of the day, you will realize that another day has passed when you are alone, but then again you can look at it in a different perspective. You know that tomorrow is another day and who knows, maybe this could be over tomorrow.)

On his eight day of isolation, when he received his positive test result, he said he only had fever and that he had already regained his sense of smell.

Despite the sad announcement, the comedian ended his video with a smile, thanking his supporters as he goes through the ordeal of fighting COVID-19.
