Andre Paras is stepping out of his dad Benjie’s shadow one project at a time. That’s quite a tall order (pun intended), but he’s getting there.
The Kapuso heartthrob is part of the Philippine adaptation of the hit Korean series, “Descendants of the Sun.” He also has an online show called “Shout Out Andre” every Saturday on his YouTube channel. The “Tower of Power’s” son is off to greater heights.
Here’s my chat with Andre:
What’s the toughest part of being the son of Benjie Paras?
Nothing. I feel very lucky to have a normal life, thanks to my dad. He makes everything easier for us.
Do you and Kobe have unspoken sibling rivalry?
No, we don’t have any rivalry at all. We support each other as much as we can. I remember when he was still studying in the US, I would usually visit him there if I had no commitments here. Kobe also tries to watch my shows and he even went to an event of GMA Pinoy TV in the US where I performed. I also try to watch his games live in the UAAP whenever I can. We usually comment on each other’s work, him as a player and me as an actor.
What’s the hardest thing about adapting to the new normal?
Not being able to go to the gym and see my close friends. But I’m used to it already because it’s better to stay indoors than outside for no important reason. I guess there will also be changes on how our tapings will be done. We just have to be ready and always keep in mind the protocols for everyone’s health and safety.
What do you think of girls who make the first move?
This has never happened to me yet, but if it happens, I will still respect her for who she is. She may have her reasons for doing it, and I hope that she also in return will respect me for who I am.
James awaits PBA reopening
James Yap, his girlfriend Mic Cazzola and their kids, MJ and Francesca, are vacationing in Mic’s hometown in Italy. They held a simple celebration of Francesca’s second birthday there. I teased James in his native Hiligaynon, “Basi magka ara kamo ni Mic ng isa pa ka baby na himo sa Italy. Dugangan nyo pa guid kay nami lahi n’yo.” (Mic and you might have another baby made in Italy. Both of you should add more because you got good genes.)
He shot back in jest, “Kinahanglan dibala mag-social distancing maskin sa kuwarto?” (Isn’t social distancing required even in the bedroom?)
James is impatiently waiting for PBA to resume. According to James, the professional league might open by August. He says, “I hope PBA opens already. If it will take longer, players will get fat and have a hard time playing. If only COVID-19 was just like basketball so after six fouls, it’s over already!”
It’s always laugh trip to the max chatting with my Ilonggo “migo,” James. He’s such a good vibes provider.
