Singer-songwriter Rico Blanco released a “quarantine version” of classic Rivermaya hit “Liwanag sa Dilim” to help raise funds for frontliners amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Blanco treated fans last Wednesday, June 3, with the new rendition on YouTube to support soap brand Safeguard’s “BayaniHands” initiative to help out frontliners through the Philippine Red Cross.

The rock icon said he decided to give new life to the song because he was touched by the company’s inspirational video for the said project, which aptly used a cover of the song to send its message.

“This is my little way of supporting their BayaniHands Project,” he said on his YouTube channel.

Blanco performed both vocals and guitar for the 2020 rendition of the song, as seen in the video.

The singer-songwriter noted that his performance is also a salute to our “modern-day heroes” and encouraged fans to donate to the cause.

“Liwanag sa Dilim” was originally released back in 2004 as part of Rivermaya’s album “Between the Stars & Waves.”

Blanco early in May also released his first solo single in four years, titled “This Too Shall Pass,” which he made to deal with the uncertainty of such trying times.

He also joined fellow musicians Christian Bautista, Morisette Amon and other Asian artists for a benefit concert last month to raise funds for UNICEF’s efforts to combat COVID-19.  /ra
