Amalia vs Annabelle: A bitter war of words

The word war between Tita Nena (Amalia Fuentes) and Tita Annabelle Rama has gone overboard. I remember when I was embroiled in a controversy with Tita Annabelle some years ago, Tita Nena (whom I consider as my second mom) wanted to mediate so Tita Annabelle and I would patch things up.

At Tita Nena’s birthday party in a bar on A-venue, Tita Annabelle was on her way out just as I was on my way up to the 2nd floor, where the celebration was. But we didn’t cross paths because I passed by the restroom first. The issue between us has long been buried. Every time I see Tita Annabelle now, we exchange pleasantries.

I would like to extend the same offer of mediation to Tita Nena that she extended to me. In my own little way, I hope I can bridge the gap that has opened up between her and Tita Annabelle. It would be terrible for their long-standing friendship to go to waste. They are both such strong-willed and feisty women so it’s only natural for them to clash from time to time. What the two Tita ‘A’s’ need to do is to start from ‘A’ again.

Gloria Diaz happens to be close to Tita Nena and me. We enjoy having long talks. Glo has been dragged into the raging war between Tita Annabelle and Tita Nena just because of a phone call. How does Glo feel about the brouhaha? “It’s a waste of time,” she says. True or not, it’s garbage and should stay in the trash bin. It’s not even worth recycling (ha ha). I told Nena to focus on her apo and treat us to lunch. Even if she has a point, it’s still below her dignity to go down to that level.”

My sentiments exactly. Tita Nena was once the country’s Movie Queen. Nobody can take that away from her. She must remain queenly even when she doesn’t feel like it.

Dingdong and Marian

I texted Dingdong Dantes to ask him how his girlfriend, Marian Rivera, felt about Katrina Halili’s tweets, which seemed to allude to Marian. Dingdong said that Marian didn’t want to comment on it anymore, because as far as she was concerned, it had been resolved. All is well for her. Now we only want peace in our lives.

Hmmm… Does a heavy heart come with Katrina’s being heavy with child? ‘Lihi’ for pregnant women is normal, but ‘muhi’ is unhealthy.

Wanderlust

Mariel Rodriguez is raving about her trip to Morocco with Robin Padilla. “It was like a fairy tale,” she gushes.  “Parang nasa different realm, time, and space kami.” She looks forward to more travels with Binoe, which is primarily why she still does not want to have kids yet.

“Nakita ko kung gaano kahirap ang mga mommies who travel with babies,” she says. “Kaya saka na muna ’yon ’pag naikot na namin ni Robin ang mundo.” Motherhood mode Off, Wanderlust mode On!

Golden girl

Tita Susan Roces does not look her age at all. But being a ‘Golden Girl,’ she empathizes with the cares and concerns of her fellow senior citizens. “Maswerte ang mga matatandang may naipon. But many are financially challenged,” she says. “So it’s really a big help to many Filipinos that there are many affordable medicines of high quality available.”

As the endorser of RiteMed (the uni-branded line of Unilab medicines), she is all for its “Bawal ang Mahal” campaign.

According to Tita Susan, the senior citizen’s discount and the reasonable prices of RiteMed mean big savings. I wonder if she can recommend an antidote for her colleagues, Tita Nena and Tita Annabelle, so they find peace with one another.
