Beauty queen Shamcey Supsup celebrated her birthday by thanking those who helped her provide aid during the coronavirus pandemic.
Supsup’s 34th birthday on May 16 coincided with the end of the enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila, but she said she would be cautious about having a party.
“As much as I want to throw a party with my family and friends, I still think everyone’s safety is the main priority. Instead let me share what we have been doing the past months,” Supsup said on Instagram last Saturday.
“Thank you to our friends, sponsors, donors and partners, together with @byahengbusog we were able to give out 100,000 meals to date to our frontliners, skeletal workforce and stranded kababayans. This is still for me, the best birthday gift ever.”
Byaheng Busog is Supsup’s food business with her husband, Lloyd Lee. She announced back in March that she was making meals for frontliners using vegetables harvested from her own backyard.
The Miss Universe Philippines national director looked back on her farming roots on Instagram on May 2.
“Our backyard here may not be as big as the ones at home, but I’m still grateful we get to grow food,” she said, noting that her harvest had been part of over a thousand meals to frontliners and essential workers at the time. /ra
