Bea Alonzo’s organization sent relief goods to jeepney drivers who have taken to the streets of Manila to seek help while they have no livelihood during the enhanced community quarantine.
Alonzo learned of the drivers’ plight through the news program “TV Patrol,” she recalled on Instagram yesterday, May 12. Her organization I Am Hope, co-founded with her friend Rina Navarro, sent boxes of food as assistance.
I Am Hope donated 26 sacks of rice, noodles, juice, milk, coffee and pandesal, “TV Patrol” reported yesterday.
The drivers in need applauded the help given, as seen in Alonzo’s Instagram Stories.

The actress also reflected on helping others while she deals with her own personal pains.
“I recently lost a very close relative, hindi madali, mabigat sa dibdib (it is not easy, heavy on my heart),” she said in her Instagram caption.
“While at home and grieving, my friend Rina, sent me a video from TV PATROL yesterday about the jeepney drivers out in the streets begging for money to feed their families. They have lost their source of income because of the pandemic.”
“Minsan kapag mabigat ang loob mo at pakiramdam mo, pinagsakluban ka ng mundo, may magpapaalala [sa ‘yo] na may pwede kang gawin para may magbago,” she said.

To help address shortages in the coronavirus pandemic, Alonzo was able to raise P6 million from donations in March-April, and has also cooked food for healthcare frontliners. /ra
