#RCColaborate: We work as one to fight COVID

09:41 AM May 11, 2020

Life has drastically changed when the coronavirus swept the world. But if there is one good thing that emerged from this crisis is that it has brought out the philanthropic side of people and business organizations. One of the companies that immediately mobilized its resources is ARC Refreshments Corporation (ARC), the Philippine manufacturer and distributor of RC Cola products.

ARC has always been there to support the community in times of trial – be it man-made or natural disasters. ARC has been actively engaging in corporate social responsibility endeavors since 2012, churning out different programs that foster leadership among the youth and providing community support especially during calamities. Today, ARC heeds the call for a united front against COVID-19 with a series of events that aim to promote safety, inspire cooperation, and encourage people to donate to COVID-related causes.

“As a wholly Filipino-owned company operating in the country, we have the responsibility in helping the community deal with the pandemic by generating awareness on the disease and encouraging people to follow the rules of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ),” said James Loverio, ARC head for Marketing.

“If we all work as one, we will help expedite the flattening of the number of COVID cases in due time,” he added.

Thus born #RCColaborate, ARC’s umbrella advocacy aims to empower Filipinos to work together in this unprecedented battle.

To support those impacted by the COVID-19 public health crisis, ARC distributed relief packs to several barangays in Antipolo City.

Foremost on its list of goals is to make Filipinos observe the rules of ECQ by staying at home. To make home quarantine not only bearable but meaningful and fun as well, #RCColaborate, through RC Cola Pvblic Jam, will feature live concerts of favorite Filipino artists in partnership with youth-oriented We the Pvblic social and entertainment media website.  Influencers such as Dani Baretto, Chef Miko Aspiras, and Rizza Diaz also lent their voice in promoting the campaign.

Last Sunday, the campaign kicked off with Yael Yuzon of Spongecola serenading Filipino netizens around the world with his classic songs. More than that, he also interacted with more than 718,000 live viewers by sharing song-writing tips and acknowledging their comments and messages. He also encouraged viewers to support the medical frontliners by donating to the Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (Diliman) Foundation, Inc via a specified gogetfunding account of Pvblic Jam.

ARC organized activities to remind the public that they can have fun and at the same time show support in raising funds for COVID-19 frontliners and other vulnerable groups while staying in their own homes.

The Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Foundation is a non-profit organization that assists laboratories and testing centers in diagnosing cases of  COVID-19. The donation will be allocated to the purchase of laboratory supplies, testing kits, equipment, and flu vaccines, to cover transportation costs and laboratory renovations and other activities related to the pandemic.

Meanwhile, gaming enthusiasts will be delighted to know that they can indulge in their favorite multiplayer shooter video games while contributing to the country at the same time. Clash for a Cause is another #RCColaborate activity which leverages the popularity of online gaming to influence netizens to donate to their selected frontliner or hospital beneficiary.

The charity tournament is livestreamed on Moymoy Palaboy’s page with Roadfill Macasero as resident shoutcaster. The game is purely invitational but can be viewed by the public. The winning team has the option to identify the beneficiaries for their prize. Spectators can also donate via the account posted on the page.

Pvblic Jam is sponsored by RC Cola while Clash for a Cause is supported by Juicy Lemon.

The  success of the fight against COVID-19 lies in the collaborative efforts of all Filipinos from the government to the public to frontliners to the economic backbone of the country – the business sector. ARC demonstrates genuine values in business by creating a perfect balance between the pursuit for bottomline and giving back to the community. Through its #RCColaborate program, it has not only instilled to the Filipino youth the significance of ECQ compliance but has also inspired the future generation of leaders to be contributing members of society in their own unique ways.
