MANILA, Philippines — Sonny Parsons, a former member of the ‘80s all-male group Hagibis, succumbed to heart attack on Sunday. He was 61.
In a Facebook post, Hagibis confirmed the news and said Parsons had a heart attack while riding his big bike in Batangas on the way to Quezon Province.
His daughter also confirmed on Facebook the passing of the Hagibis member.
Meanwhile, Actress Vivian Velez, who now serves as director-general of the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), and Manuel Rigor of the ‘70s disco group VST & Company were among the first to express their grief over Parsons’ death.
Parsons was a member of the 1980s band Hagibis, the local version of the popular American group Village People that popularized the songs “Legs,” “Babae,” “Lalake” and “Katawan.”
Parsons’ last television appearance was as a guest actor for action-drama series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” of ABS-CBN in 2017.
He also served as a city councilor in Marikina.
