Actress Glaiza De Castro mulled over how the entertainment industry will adjust to the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly about how TV and movie shoots will be conducted under the “new normal” after the quarantine period.

The actress recalled her last taping in Banaue before the implementation of the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). This prompted De Castro to question the industry’s future, as per her Instagram post yesterday, May 5.

“Maitutuloy pa kaya itong soap?” De Castro said. “Maipapalabas pa kaya ang mga pelikula sa sinehan?”

(Will soap operas continue? Will movies be shown in cinemas?)

Despite the uncertainty, the actress expressed her belief that everything will turn out fine in the end.

“Dasal lang mga kaibigan sa industriya, magkikita kita tayong muli (Let us just pray, my friends in the industry, we will see each other again),” she added.

Last month, President Rodrigo Duterted extended the ECQ in Metro Manila and other high-risk areas from April 30 to May 15. Other moderate to low-risk regions were placed under the general community quarantine (GCQ) starting May 1. Under GCQ, mass gatherings, including entertainment-related activities such as concerts, film showings and live shows are still prohibited.

Meanwhile, international film producers are also searching for radical solutions to reopen Hollywood, but even they could not see how a new “Star Wars” or Marvel movie can be made with the house-quarantine restrictions and the threat of the virus.

Some people from the entertainment industry have resolved to try an experimental approach to producing creative outputs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the Philippines, actors Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz were a part of a scripted livestream reunion, which was later on revealed to be an experimental project directed and written by Antoinette Jadaone, as a part of the “Unconfined Cinema” initiative. JB
