Ricky Lee, Nora Aunor, other PH cinema icons to hold live online discussions

MANILA, Philippines—Philippine cinema icons are set to join forces for virtual fundraising events to aid around 1,500 displaced movie workers in view of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) imposed in the entire Luzon and other parts of the country.

Esteemed writer Ricky Lee, veteran actresses Nora Aunor and Charo Santos of the classic film “Himala” will be holding an online panel discussion, aptly titled “Gabi ng Himala: Mga Awit at Kwento,” at 8 p.m. on Tuesday via the ABS-CBN Film Restoration Facebook page.

The online event, set to be hosted by Bianca Gonzalez and Ryan Agoncillo, will also feature live musical performances, script-reading sessions and scene interpretations by Lea Salonga, Piolo Pascual, Jodi Sta. Maria, Angelica Panganiban, Maja Salvador, Bituin Escalante, Aicelle Santos and other artists.

Lee, meanwhile, teased fans with actress Marian Rivera’s interpretation of Elsa’s (Aunor’s) “Walang Himala” monologue set to be shown during the event.

“This is just one reason why I feel so humbled and excited at the same time for tonight’s Gabi ng Himala fundraising event—Dingdong Dantes directing Marian Rivera doing her take on Elsa’s Walang Himala monologue,” Lee posted on Facebook on Tuesday noon.

Directors Dan Villegas and Antoinette Jadaone, along with actor Jericho Rosales, will meanwhile be joining Gonzalez for a “#KwentuhanLang” session on Wednesday, also at 8 p.m via Cinema ’76 Film Society’s Facebook page.

“If you have any questions at all on the process of filmmaking, please feel free to post it below and I will forward your questions to the team!” Gonzalez said Tuesday on Instagram.

“Both Gabi ng Himala and Kwentuhan Lang are part of Lockdown Cinema, a series of projects for the benefit of 1,500 displaced film workers (and their families) who lost their means of livelihood during this quarantine. Any kind of support from you is highly appreciated!” she added.

Gonzalez is also inviting around three to four fans to join her on an Instagram Live session on Thursday. “[If] you’ve dreamed of becoming an artista at ma-interview ng isang host tulad ko (a celebrity and be interviewed by a host like me), send me a DM saying what you want to talk about if you are game to be my guest!” she said.

Other than the Lockdown Cinema project, Lee is also holding free online scriptwriting workshops amid the ECQ.

“Gabi ng Himala: Mga Awit at Kwento” is organized by the Lockdown Cinema Club, the Ricky Lee Film Scriptwriting Workshop and ABS-CBN Film Restoration. Concerned citizens can donate to the cause via the following methods:
