MANILA, Philippines—American singer Christopher Cross announced Friday, April 3, that he has contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Cross wrote in a Facebook post, “I’m sorry to report that I am among the growing number of Americans who tested positive for [COVID-19].”

“Although I am fortunate enough to be cared for at home, this is possibly the worst illness I’ve ever had,” he said.

He  also reached out to people who believe that the infectious disease is a “hoax.”

“My advice to you is to understand right now that this is a deadly illness spreading like wildfire throughout the world.”

To prevent the further spread of the virus, he appealed to the public to stay at home and follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Wherever you are in the world, let’s all be kind to one another. Only if we work together can we defeat COVID-19,” Cross concluded.

The Grammy award-winning singer is known for ‘80s hits such as “Sailing” and “Ride Like the Wind”.

American music artists who have been stricken with COVID-19 include Sara Bareilles and Pink.
