Matteo Guidicelli celebrated his 30th birthday on March 26, but he was reluctant to consider it a happy one.
According to wife Sarah Geronimo, that’s because of the suffering people are going through amid the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
“He was having mixed emotions,” the pop star related in a video chat aired on the online version of the noontime variety show, “Asap Natin ’To,” last Sunday. “He told me, ‘Love, I don’t think I can consider my birthday happy, because the news reports I have been reading and seeing about what’s happening around are just heartbreaking. Many of our fellowmen are helpless and are having a tough time these days,’” Sarah recalled.
“It’s saddening,” the 31-year-old music artist added.
As Sarah presented the birthday cake to Matteo, the actor and Army reservist wished the country’s healing before blowing out the candles. “He hoped for this virus … COVID-19 to end,” added Sarah, who took over Matteo’s Instagram account to extend her well-wishes to her husband.
“Happy birthday to my loving and caring husband! I love you, mahal ko,” Sarah said in a recent post, along with an old photo of a young Matteo. “You look like Lucho here!”
But despite his conflicting feelings about turning a year old under the circumstances we’re in, Matteo couldn’t be more thankful to Sarah and his family.
“Thank you, Mrs. Guidicelli, for everything. [It’s my] first birthday with you as your husband and I will forever cherish every single day with you. These days have reminded me of how precious life is,” he wrote, also on Instagram. “Family, friends, loved ones and everyone out there, thank you very much for the greetings! God bless us all. Stay safe everyone.”
Meanwhile, in a Facebook livestream for One Voice Pilipinas—a fundraising initiative Matteo spearheaded with a supermarket chain he endorses—the actor was asked by guest Nico Bolzico if he and Sarah and Matteo are already planning to have a baby.
The question was prompted after Matteo teased Nico to teach him how to be a good father and husband.
“No, no … whatever God gives us, that would be amazing. As of now, we have to enjoy each other’s company, because this is the first time we’re actually together after six years,” Matteo said.
“It’s just been a month since we got married, but every single day feels like a blessing, feels like a dream,” Matteo added.
