Amid this pandemic-induced quarantine we are in, musicians and fans alike are slowly slipping into the new norm of online concerts—the trio Johnoy Danao, Ebe Dancel and Bullet Dumas, or 3D, are set to give fans just that to commemorate Earth Hour 2020.

3D will be holding the online jam session via the Gabay Kalikasan Facebook page at 8 p.m. today, March 28. Earth Hour 2020, meanwhile, is scheduled to run from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

“Bukas ay may Earth hour pa rin,” Dumas said in a Facebook post yesterday, March 27. “Alam ko weird humingi ng additional request sa inyo sa mga panahong ito pero para lang sa may pribilehiyong gawin ito, pakipatay ang mga ilaw na hindi naman natin ginagamit.”

(We still have Earth Hour tomorrow. I know it is weird to ask for an additional request to you in these times, but for those who have the privilege to do this, please turn off the lights that you are not using.)

Dumas went on to explain that despite the apparent improvement of air quality in quarantined countries, Earth will not heal if people go back to their old ways after the pandemic dies down.

“[Kaya] kelangan natin palitan ang lifestyle natin mismo kung gusto natin alagaan talaga ang mundo (So we really need to change our lifestyle if we want to take care of the world),” he noted.

Dumas’ plea comes in line with the very backbone of the annual event, which is the turning off of non-essential lights all over the world for one hour, among other energy-conservation efforts.

Earth Hour, a global environmental movement of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), aims to inspire “individuals, businesses, organizations and governments to take tangible action for the planet,” as per the non-profit organization’s website.

“Earth Hour is known as the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment and everyone is encouraged to participate and take meaningful and urgent action to ensure a living planet for generations to come,” the WWF-Philippines stated.

The trio’s virtual gig for Gabay Kalikasan was arranged by PLDT and Smart Communications.  /ra
