Actress and philanthropist Angel Locsin’s fundraising effort, dedicated to providing additional tents for hospitals coping with growing numbers of patients due to COVID-19, brought in P1 million in less than 24 hours.
The actress announced that they will start setting up the first batch of tents today, as per her Instagram post yesterday, March 26. Locsin added that if the flow of donations continues for her initiative “UniTENTweStandPH,” they might be able to provide hospital tents all over the country. The fundraiser has a total of about P1.66 million as of this writing.
Locsin accompanied the post with an update that they were experiencing difficulty with their online money transfer account in PayPal. The “Darna” star showed a screen capture of an account that is “temporarily limited” and under review in her post. Locsin also thanked everyone who supported their initiative.
“While we are resolving this, we can start setting up the first batch of hospital tents tomorrow,” she said on Thursday.
The actress followed up today, March 27, that the account is back online: “WE’RE BACK and we are now receiving your donations,” she stated.
Locsin’s initiative is co-signed by her fiance, Neil Arce, and her fellow actress Dimples Romana, among others. The fundraiser targets to set up at least two tents each in 10 hospitals that requested their help, according to the page.
Aside from the monetary donations, Locsin also requested her friends from the industry to donate their taping beds while Luzon is under an enhanced community quarantine. She also appealed to anyone with spare foldable beds and beddings to reach her. /ra
