Dua Lipa was in tears when she revealed that her new album “Future Nostalgia” will be dropped sooner than expected after it reportedly leaked online.
The singer spoke about the new launch date during an Instagram Live session last Monday, March 23. One fan account dedicated to the artist (Dua Lipa Hungary) uploaded the 46-minute livestream on YouTube on the same day.
While she did not mention the supposed leak, ET Canada reported that her sophomore album was illegally released last weekend.
Dua Lipa then explained that “Future Nostalgia” will now be officially launched on Friday, March 27 instead of the previous schedule of April 3. However, she admitted to having mixed feelings about releasing a new album amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I’ve been a little bit conflicted about whether it’s the right thing to do during this time because lots of people are suffering,” she said while wiping away tears.
Despite feeling uncertain about her decision, Dua Lipa pointed out that the things people need during these trying times are music and joy, which she hopes her music can offer.
“I hope it makes you smile and I hope it makes you dance and I hope I make you proud,” she added.
Along with the earlier release of her album, Dua Lipa has also pushed forward the debut of her latest single “Break My Heart”. The song will come out later today, March 25.
The artist also announced that her upcoming tour to support her album has been postponed due to the coronavirus.
“I tried to hold out for as long as possible but I can see that, at the moment, things aren’t changing and for the safety of everyone around us, we really need to be careful and cautious,” she explained.
Dua Lipa revealed the new dates for the United Kingdom and European legs of the tour on her Instagram page yesterday, March 24. She assured her fans that all purchased tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled shows. New dates for other countries have yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, the artist also urged her young fans to stay indoors to avoid spreading COVID-19.
“I don’t think we should be so small-minded,” she said in the livestream. “It really does affect you and we really just need to look after each other.” Ryan Arcadio/JB
