Alanis Morissette and Tori Kelly are the latest international artists who were forced to put a halt to their respective world tours due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Alanis, who last performed in Manila in 1996, was supposed to hold a two-night concert at Smart Araneta Coliseum on April 6 and 7, as part of the 25th anniversary of “Jagged Little Pill”—one of the defining albums of the 1990s. There’s a bit of a good news, however. She clarified that she was merely postponing her concerts, and urged fans who have already purchased tickets to keep them and wait for further announcements. Ovation Productions is the promoter.
“The safety and health of everyone comes first. Unfortunately, the upcoming shows in Japan, Manila, Australia and New Zealand are being rescheduled for later dates. Please hang on to your tickets … details to come soon for the rescheduled shows,” the Canadian music artist said in a statement.
“Take care of yourself, each other,” Alanis added. “I love you.”
Tori Kelly
American singer-songwriter Tori Kelly, on the other hand, has decided to cancel all the remaining dates of her “Inspired by True Events,” including her April 20 stop at New Frontier Theater, which is mounted by MMI Live.
“I’m really bummed and this is the last thing I wanted to do, but it’s necessary,” stressed Tori, a two-time Grammy winner known for her gospel-influenced pop-R&B music.
“I’m praying for our world right now! Please stay safe and look out for one another during these times. And I will hopefully see you soon,” she wrote in an Instagram post. —ALLAN POLICARPIO
