MANILA, Philippines — Filipino filmmakers are inviting online audiences to “watch all you want, and give what you can” as it raises funds for nearly 1,000 low-income film workers hit by the enhanced community quarantine.
The initiative titled “Lockdown Cinema Club” has raised P334,426.89, it announced today, March 22 on Facebook. It aims to support freelance daily wage earners working on film sets that earn less than P2,000 a day.
Beneficiaries include utility personnel, setmen, grips, electricians, production assistants, post-production staff, assistant wardrobe, assistant hair, and make-up and art department carpenters, among others.
The effort, launched on Facebook last March 20, offers a catalog of films that can be accessed for free in a Google document which can be accessed here. Within the document is a call for donations for film workers who have no income while being unable to work during the quarantine.
The collection includes a slew of Filipino and Southeast Asian short films, with the shortest running for two minutes. Among the Filipino filmmakers who have offered their works for binge-watching are Lav Diaz, Erik Matti, Jerrold Tarrog, JP Habac, and Samantha Lee.
