Shortly after handing out goods to tricycle drivers, hip-hop star Loonie (real name: Marlon Peroramas) started a donation drive to help the most affected sectors of society as the world is gripped by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The rapper called for donations via his Facebook page yesterday, March 20, while sharing messages from someone in need of help, which Loonie said is one of the reasons he is helping out.
“Dahil sa mga nakakadurog ng puso na mga mensahe ng mga tao, patuloy po kami tutulong sa abot ng aming makakaya (Because of the heart-wrenching messages from people, we will continue to help as best as we can),” he said.
The rapper told fans that he will randomly give shout-outs via his Facebook page if they donate to the #KapitLangReliefProgram, which is seemingly inspired by his song with Cucay Pagdilao, titled “Kapit Lang.”
Loonie’s post was accompanied by a screenshot of the aforementioned messages, in which the sender detailed how his or her father was one of the tricycle drivers the rapper was able to help.
“[Tatlong] araw din po namin tinipid yung mga pagkain… di po namin alam kanino galing yung biyaya kasi wala po pangalan nakalagay. Tapos nakita ko na lang po sa [Facebook] yung ‘kapit lang’ na post [niyo] po,” the sender said.
(We rationed the food for three days. We did not know from whom the blessing came because there was no name, then I saw your “kapit lang” post on Facebook.)
“Di po ako makatigil sa kakaiyak dahil sa papa ko dahil narinig ko po sya na nagmamakaawa sa mga tao na sumakay kasi wala naman daw siya sakit kahit matanda na siya at naka mask naman daw po siya at alcohol,” the sender added.
(I could not stop crying because I heard my father beg other people to ride his tricycle as he is not sick even if he is old and that he uses face mask and alcohol.)
The sender said he or she was very thankful for Loonie’s generosity and asked for his help once again, claiming that they had yet to receive any help from the government.
“Pag madami na ang nalikom natin, bilang pasasalamat sasabak ako sa isang online rap battle or freestyle battle laban sa isa sa mga paborito nyong rappers na agad agad naming iuupload para sa inyo,” he said. “Magtulungan po tayo sa panahong ito!”
(Once we collect enough funds, as a sign of gratitude, I will face one of your favorite rappers in a rap battle that we will immediately upload for you guys. Let us help each other in these times!)
Loonie said donors should email donate@loonieverse.com with their names and proofs of donation for the video shoutout.
