Actress Angel Locsin appealed to retailers who are selling face masks at a higher price, after she got an offer to pay P1,500 for the mask.

The celebrity philanthropist expressed her desire to donate masks and other protective gear by replying to foreign secretary Teodoro “Teddy Boy” Locsin Jr.’s post on Twitter yesterday, March 16.

Teddy Boy Locsin was responding to a certain @teta_limcangco, who was pointing out proper mask usage, especially by government officials facing the public. The secretary said that “the public is doing that without being told” and “they just need to find more masks.” He then assured that more supply is coming.

The actress retweeted the post, mentioning the difficulty of acquiring medical protective gear.

“Sir, many wanted to donate [masks] and other protective [gear.] Kaya lang sobrang difficult makakuha,” she said. “Kung sakali mang natuloy yung order, may kukuha na politicians or big companies.”

“I’m sure itutulong rin naman po nila sa iba,” she clarified. “Pero it’s hard for us .”

(I’m sure they will use it to help others, but it’s hard for us.)

The former “Darna” actress also called out face mask sellers through a separate post today, March 17.

“Sa nagbebenta sa akin ng mask na nakalaan para sa mga frontliners natin for P1,500, MAKONSENSIYA HO KAYO,” she stressed.

(To those selling masks to me for P1,500, which are supposed to be dedicated to our frontliners, where’s your conscience?)

Locsin also retweeted one of her fan’s (@wordvomitzero) response to her post, affirming the price increase.

“Sad but true. May nag iipit sa ports (They are being held back in the ports),” the netizen said. “[Now] people need to shell out so much money for masks that used to cost Php 45 per box, N95 used to be php 45 per piece (Bambang price).”

“Umiiral ang pagiging madamot sa panahon na dapat nagtutulungan,” the netizen added.

Meanwhile, hospitals are appealing for more face masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE), as their health service employees become more at risk of contracting the novel coronavirus. Staff members have reportedly been shelling out their own money to buy the masks they can use. JB
