Kris Bernal has come a long way since her “Starstruck” days. She’s now lovestruck as the fiancée of Chinese businessman Perry Choi.
The Kapuso stunner has also become an entrepreneur. Kris is happy being busy, and busy being happy.
Here’s my chat with Kris:
What excites and scares you about marriage?
I’m excited to begin a new chapter in my life with Perry. I feel like we’ll be able to accomplish more together, and that these accomplishments will be all the more rewarding. I am worried that marriage might affect my career, me being in the industry for 13 years now. There’s so much more I want to achieve. I still want to bag lead roles on TV and movies and win acting awards.
What made you say yes to Perry?
It’s not something I cannot put into words. It’s a feeling of complete and unconditional acceptance. There is trust and respect between the two of us. We both support each other’s identity, flaws and all. He is my soul teacher, partner, lover, best friend and fan.
What love advice do you follow?
Money cannot buy happiness. Money can buy lust, attraction and power, but it can’t buy true love. Love is something intimate, heartfelt and mysterious. Money is none of these things. Perry is not a multimillionaire, but he values love, emotional attachment, mutual respect for each other’s dreams and aspirations and good chemistry. I give more importance to these over material stuff.
Let us in on your wedding and honeymoon plans.
We plan to get married by May 2021, which is my birthday month. We don’t want to rush things. We want to be 110 percent ready as we begin a new chapter in our lives. As for the honeymoon, I want to tour Europe.
So, no culture clash between you and Perry?
I am thankful that Perry has a modern Chinese-Filipino family that allows the kids to marry Filipinos. But many of them still respect tradition and prefer that the Filipino would have some Chinese blood. I am one-fourth Chinese because of my mom. I don’t have any problem with his family at all.
What do you remember most about your love team days with Aljur Abrenica?
I realize how blessed we were that our love team worked. We were adored by many and well-supported by GMA. I wouldn’t be where I am now without Aljur. I owe my success to him.
Why didn’t you and Aljur end up together?
I must admit I fell in love with him. The love was there for a long time, but timing was never right. You cannot make someone love you back, no matter how much you love him.
Tell us a bit about your business ventures.
House of Gogi is a Korean barbecue restaurant in Banawe that offers unlimited premium meats and “banchan.” There’s another branch at University Mall on Taft that will open this summer. SHE Cosmetics PH’s first line is liquid matte lipsticks. For our new product, I partnered with Nuni Busher, a brand in Korea, to offer Pinays the four-in-one pack containing a highlighter, contour, and lip and cheek creams.
Would you be willing to work with Aljur again?
I can never say no to a project with the guy I had the most chemistry with. I’m sure our respective partners won’t mind, and they will understand that it’s for the fans.
The stir ‘Crash Landing on You’ is creating in show biz
The hit Korean Netflix series, “Crash Landing on You” (CLOY), is causing quite a commotion even among show biz people. I am going gaga over its lead actor, Hyun Bin. That’s why I am paraphrasing its title to “Crush Landing on You.”
I seriously want to put up a Oppa Binny (Bin’s nickname) Fans Club. Some of the show’s certified binge-watchers are Karylle, Ogie Alcasid, Ina Feleo, Kakai Bautista, Mitch Rosario (wife of Gilas player Troy) and Monette Co (wife of PBA legend Atoy).
The caption of Ogie on his post of a scene from “CLOY” cracked me up. It goes, “Ano’ng Nangyari sa Akin?” I told him that I ask myself the same question. Ogs’ other post of his wife Regine watching the series has an even funnier caption: “May nabiktima ako.” A local brand of clothing ought to tap Hyun Bin as its endorser soon. That will be a jackpot move. And for Oppa’s swoon-worthy billboards, I suggest to use this tagline: You’re not in if you have not been “Hyun Binned.”
