Killer black and white outfits, catchy dance choreography and a colorful dessert party — girl group MNL48’s new music video “High Tension” has got it all.

MNL48’s pop track, with Filipino and English lyrics, talks about taking things easy and finding joy in the simple things in life. The group launched its official video via YouTube yesterday, Feb. 19.

An ancestral house became the backdrop of the girl group’s fun dance numbers, highlighted by dazzling outfit changes for each segment.

The group empowers its listeners with lines such as: “‘Wag isipin ang suot/ boses isigaw (Do not think about what you are wearing/ Raise your voice).”

The feel-good vibe of its electronic beats also aims to release tension and encourages listeners to let go by dancing.

“Woah, magsaya at mag-enjoy ka na (Have fun, enjoy). Sumayaw (dance)!” the group sang.

The song’s rap part also echoed the overall message of seizing the day and finding the things that fuel one’s passions.

“Sabi nila bukas ay ‘di sigurado/Pero sa mukha nila lungkot ‘di matago,” MNL48 sang. “Propeta lang daw ang may alam ng bukas/Ipokrito lang may gustong ibigkas.”

(They say tomorrow is uncertain/ But they cannot hide the sadness in their faces/ They say only a prophet can tell what will come tomorrow/ Only hypocrites have something to say.)

“High Tension” is the fifth single released by the girl group. Since its release, it has also made its way to YouTube’s trending videos list.

MNL48 is an “all-girl sing-and-dance group, [aged] 15 [to] 20 years old with 48 members and 13 trainees,” according to its official website. The Filipino girl group is a version of the famous J-pop idols AKB48 and has other sister groups all over Asia such as Thailand, Taiwan and Indonesia, among others. JB
