Angelo Castro Jr. should be emulated

CASTRO. Delivered the news in a straightforward manner.

RINA VILLANUEVA, producer/director: “I knew veteran broadcaster, Angelo Castro Jr., as Bong (from “Baltic & Company,” a TV show that aired in the late ’70s). I told myself that I would take up journalism and, like him, report the news in a professional, straightforward manner.

“I’m a Mass Com graduate, and ‘The World Tonight’ was a nightly staple. Anchored by Castro and Tina Monzon-Palma, the nightly news program was the only one I respected. His delivery was classy, and he kept his opinions to himself.

“Working in the news department is as toxic as can be, but I envy the people who worked with him—his discipline and dedication should be emulated by today’s anchors. It is a responsibility and a craft that should be respected!”

Marivic Casion, office employee: “Sharon Cuneta was reported to have tweeted to her fans, admitting to being ‘sad,’ and saying that she would like to go back to her old figure. This is good news for the Megastar’s admirers, like me.

Comeback

“Show biz fans in these parts aren’t fond of stars who are on the heavy side, unless they are comedians. It’s been quite a while since Sharon appeared in a drama. I hope she’ll make a comeback this year—with a slimmer figure.”

Jen Daguman, student: “The unpleasant incident involving the motormouth talent manager and the ex-movie queen is like life imitating art—or maybe they’ve just been watching too many teleseryes.

“The verbal exchanges between them happened during a Mass for the former movie queen’s departed husband. As expected, the media played up the incident to the hilt, as if it were of national importance! What a way to end the season of Lent.”

Rey Benitez, graphic artist: “After Aga Muhlach announced his plan to run for a congressional seat next year, look who’s also joining the fray—Willie Revillame. Although Revillame qualified that he won’t be running, but that he’ll turn his I Will Serve Foundation into a party-list group.

“I don’t see the logic of him not running, considering that he is among those who could win, based on surveys. There are already a number of actors who are into politics, especially in the Senate. Pero bakit parang wala naman silang nagawa for the Philippine movie industry?”
