Like many local singers, Christian Bautista, Julie Anne San Jose and Kyline Alcantara usually spend the busy Valentine season at work, on the stage, serenading other lovestruck couples. But given the chance, how would they like to celebrate it?
“I would love to spend some quality time with my wife (Kat Ramnani). It has to be something special, because we just spent our first year as a married couple,” Christian told the Inquirer in an interview for the pre-Valentine’s Day show, “The Sweetheart and the Balladeer (Fun Night Only),” which he will topbill with Julie Anne. The show also features Kyline.
If Christian could have it his way, he and Kat would go somewhere with no cell phone signal, like their recent honeymoon adventures in Africa. “It was beautiful. We were disconnected from social media. We didn’t get to post as much… It was all about us,” he related.
“But we have to save up again for something like that, however,” he quipped, laughing. “A dinner—a delicious meal and a great conversation—isn’t so bad.”
For her part, Kyline isn’t dating anyone at the moment. But she, too, would love to spend the day close to nature. “I want to go outdoors—I’m thinking, maybe we can go mountain hiking or forest camping. I want to see beautiful landscapes. The good thing is that the signal will be scarce, so that me and my date can get to know each other better,” she said. Well, that is if someone musters enough courage to ask her out.
“Honestly, I rarely get dates on Valentine’s Day. They say it’s because I’m a straightforward person, and apparently, they find that intimidating,” she said, adding that she would probably just buy herself some flowers this year.
“Why not? And I also love it when my parents leave flowers and chocolates in my room before I wake up.”
Julie Anne isn’t used to grand romantic gestures or going all-out. “I usually go for a simple dinner,” related the singer who, like Kyline, is single right now. “But of course it would be nice to get treated by a special someone once in a while.”
The day, however, shouldn’t be exclusive to couples, she surmised. “Honestly, I just want a free day with my family. I believe everyone can celebrate it. either with their families or loved ones. You don’t need a special occasion or day to express your love and gratefulness. Why not do it every day?”
Mounted by GMA Regional TV, “The Sweetheart and the Balladeer (Fun Night Only)” will be held on Feb. 8 at the Urdaneta City Cultural and Sports Center in Pangasinan. Tickets are available via TicketWorld. Also included in the show are comedians, Super Tekla and Donita Nose.
“Since this is a pre-Valentine’s Day show, we will be doing more love ballads. But there will also be upbeat numbers,” Julie Anne said.
Christian, who has been doing concerts regularly with Julie Anne since he transferred to the Kapuso network in 2013, said he’s hoping for more collaborations in the future. “I hope we can record a song together. Or perhaps do bigger concerts here or abroad,” he said.
Kyline, on the other hand, enjoys being mentored by his seniors, and getting in touch with her fans outside Manila. “I love doing regional concerts because it allows me to see my supporters from different parts of the country. They don’t get to see me in person often, so it’s always a treat,” she pointed out. “That makes my heart happy.” INQ
