Billie Eilish, one of the biggest breakout stars on the music scene last year, is set to make a stop and take the stage in Manila later this year, as part of the Asian leg of her upcoming third concert tour, “Where Do We Go?”Produced by local promoter MMI Live, the 18-year-old pop star’s show will be held on Sept. 5 at SM Mall of Asia Arena. Tickets go on sale starting Feb. 2 at 12 p.m. via SM Tickets (call 8470-2222).

Spontaneous, earthy and quirkily cool, Billie first made her presence known at the age of 14 with the 2016 synth-pop song “Ocean Eyes.” But it wasn’t until 2019 that she started to receive worldwide recognition and acclaim for her music that she had been quietly working on.Billie’s debut album, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, and spawned a No. 1 Hot 100 hit in “Bad Guy.” Such feats made her the first music artist born in this millennium to have scored a chart-topping album and single.

Among other hits by Billie, who writes her material together with her brother musician Finneas O’Connell, are “When the Party’s Over,” “Bury a Friend” and “Everything I Wanted.”Known for her whispery singing style and her brooding—but deceptively melodic—alternative pop sound, the American singer has so far amassed a combined 17 billion streams across various digital platforms, and is currently up for six awards at the 2020 Grammy Awards. Most recently, Billie has been announced as the performer of the official theme song for the new James Bond movie, “No Time to Die.” —ALLAN POLICARPIO
