Netflix US: More people watched ‘Murder Mystery’ than any other 2019 release

According to Netflix U.S.’s 2019 chart, which counts viewing times as short as two minutes, “Murder Mystery” was the network’s most-watched new release of the year, followed by supernatural drama “Stranger Things 3” and action movie “6 Underground.”

Adam Sandler’s Netflix deal continues to bear fruit for the network, according to its ranking of most-viewed new additions for 2019.

Released as a network exclusive in June, “Murder Mystery” finished the year as Netflix’s most-watched piece of content.

The ranking doesn’t reveal audience numbers nor average viewing times for each movie or show. Rather, Netflix included accounts that watched two minutes or more of a title during its first 28 days of availability.

“Murder Mystery”, a vacation-based crime comedy which had Adam Sandler co-headline with Jennifer Aniston, placed first ahead of a third season of “Stranger Things” and December action movie “6 Underground” directed by “Transformers” mogul Michael Bay and starring “Deadpool” man Ryan Reynolds.

Disney Pixar’s “The Incredibles 2” was Netflix U.S.’s fourth most-watched 2019 addition — the 2018 movie was added in January and will leave in July 2020, with Disney now having launched its own Disney+ service — while Martin Scorsese’s mafia epic “The Irishman” was fifth.

Rounding out the top ten were fantasy series “The Witcher”, cross-border action escapade “Triple Frontier”, Ted Bundy trial dramatization “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile”, oddball superhero series “The Umbrella Academy” and Bonnie and Clyde manhunt “The Highwaymen”. NVG
