It’s Tuesday of Holy Week. Where does your faith lie? Let me take a break from show biz madness for some self-introspection.
As we go on our Holy Week break, may we find time to ponder the deeper significance of Lent. Beyond the religious rituals, what is the Lord trying to tell us at this point in our lives?
I will pray for those who persecute me. In this crazy biz, sometimes it’s hard to tell who your true friends are. I will also pray for discernment.
Let’s hear what celebs have to say as they share their Holy Week reflections. Let your heart of hearts be attuned to that little voice inside you.
GARY VALENCIANO: I will reflect not so much on what Jesus can do for me, but on who He really is … God. I don’t claim to know everything about this faith that I boldly speak about, but one thing I know is that His grace, which is undeserved, unmerited and unearned, strengthens and enables me to pass each test, not by the skin of my teeth but with flying colors. And even if I should sometimes fail, His grace will always and forever enable me to get up and get going once again.
LANI MERCADO: As with most Filipinos, Holy Week is a time for me to renew bonds with my family, with whom I go through the rituals of our faith. I also take a short rest from the busyness of our individual lives.
The brief vacation helps me to reflect better on what God wants me to do in my family life, as well as in public service, and show business. It is the time to assess if I have succeeded in striking a balance in my relationships—with God, my family, my peers and my constituents.
I also seize the opportunity to seek God’s forgiveness for my failings, as well as guidance and strength for all the things I do.
JOHN ESTRADA: I will look deep inside me and reflect on all the blessings God has given me, so I may have an insight on how to give back to our country and the community. This is a time to be thankful and to rejoice that we can start anew with a clean slate.
PHILIP SALVADOR: I will read the Bible with much emphasis on The Book of John, which I will savor verse by verse.
BO CERRUDO: I will honestly re-examine my beliefs and thoughts that I’ve been affirming all these years, to know why and how I’ve been getting what I’ve been getting—which served my higher purpose and which did not. Surely I can live with more freedom.
CHRISTIAN BAUTISTA: I will reflect on how the Lord is risen and how much He loves me.
SAY ALONZO: It’s a good time to thank the Lord for all our blessings. I will focus on giving more to those who have less.
AMY PEREZ: I will reflect on having a deeper relationship with God, and really understand what He is trying to teach me.
TINTIN BERSOLA-BABAO: As we do every year, Julius and I and the kids are going on a Visita Iglesia. I will write in my gratitude journal, thanking God for His love and mercy. I will reflect on the passion of our Lord, and reflect on John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
BAYANI AGBAYANI: My prayers always focus on asking God for protection and good health for my family, and also giving thanks to Him for all that I have become.
