Sanya Lopez on being Pia Wurtzbach’s successor

Sanya Lopez on being Pia Wurtzbach's successorSanya Lopez is a child-woman. Sultry yet naive, she’s a cross between Jennylyn Mercado and Solenn Heussaff. The Kapuso hottie joined the biz by accident. When Sanya visited her brother, Jak Roberto, in the studio, Kuya Germs (Moreno) spotted her and asked her if she wanted to become an actress. Et voila! It was a life-changing moment for Sanya.

Bigger things are coming Sanya’s way. She just finished shooting a movie with Nora Aunor, Isa Pang Bahaghari. Then, she marks a milestone in her career as she has been tapped to be the 2020 Calendar Island Girl of Ginebra San Miguel (GSM). She takes over Pia Wurtzbach, no less.

To be the brand ambassador of such an iconic brand in Pinoy culture is quite a feat. Sanya’s grand launch at Novotel was a visual delight. It showcased the beauty of our various islands.

The new calendar girl will be joining the Ginuman Fest tour, the brand’s annual series of music festivals. Let Sanya’s charms intoxicate you.

Here’s my chat with Sanya:

Don’t you feel pressured to be the successor of Pia Wurtzbach as GSM’s Calendar Girl? It’s surreal to be her successor, but I refuse to let the high expectations pressure me. We both have different styles and beauty. I hope the public won’t compare us. I will just give my all to be worthy of being the new calendar girl.

In what ways do you embody GSM’s never say die spirit? I consider the challenges and struggles that I went through in life as my motivation to never give up in pursuing my dreams. It is my family that inspires me to be ganado sa buhay. The long wait was worth it. It’s more fulfilling than achieving success instantly.

How did you prepare for your calendar shoot? I only ate fish and chicken. I did a lot of cardio workout, mostly running, Muay Thai and boxing.

Do you and Jak Roberto have sibling rivalry? None at all. We are each other’s No. 1 supporter.

What makes Jak’s relationship with Barbie Forteza work? When they are off-cam, both of them don’t act like they’re stars. So, show biz does not get in the way of their relationship. They’re just like a regular couple. They find time to enjoy the simple pleasures in life.

When will you find time for love? I’m an NBSBî(no boyfriend since birth) kind of girl (laughs). I date, but I’m in no rush to fall in love. Funny that some people tease me that I might be a lesbian since I’ve never had a boyfriend. I just laugh it off.
