Jake Gyllenhaal, who played the villain in “Spider-Man: Far From Home”, became a real-life hero when he saved a dog last Thursday, Oct. 17.
The actor spotted a large dog standing terrified in the middle of a busy intersection while he was walking with a companion in New York City, United States, as per Page Six last Saturday, Oct. 19.
The dog was identified as a Harlequin Great Dane, as reported by The Cut on Monday, Oct. 21. This apparently corrects previous reports by other outlets that the dog is a Dalmatian.
An eyewitness (unnamed in the report) told Page Six that the animal was on a leash but had managed to get away from its owner, who was too small to control the animal. The dog was estimated to be 3 feet tall.
Gyllenhaal initially motioned to the dog, but it remained in the intersection as it appeared to be “in shock.”
The actor then walked to the dog amid the moving traffic, which led the oncoming cars to come to a stop. Gyllenhaal successfully calmed the dog down before leading it back to its owner.
“He really was a hero,” the eyewitness said in the report.
After taking the animal out of harm’s way, the celebrity spoke with the owner about types of leashes that may help them avoid the same situation.
Gyllenhaal is a self-professed dog lover, as per report, and has had several dogs including a German shepherd named Atticus and a pug-and-beagle mix called Boo Radley. Ryan Arcadio/JB
