Movie Trailer Review: 'The Heiress'

REGAL ENTERTAINMENT, INC.

There has always been a long deep fascination when it comes to our native monsters, beasts, spirits of the forest, demonic entities, mystical creatures, and ghosts that exist in our Filipino folklore. That interest, curiosity, and desire to know more about them is one reason why local horror movies will always prevail. It is deeply rooted in who we are as Filipinos.

The Mambabarang is a perfect example of this. It is a more horrific, twisted, and demented version in the Philippines of a sorceress or a witch. And that aforementioned demonic entity is the key antagonist in ‘The Heiress’ which is the latest horror-themed movie from Regal Entertainment, Inc.

I can tell that ‘The Heiress’ will have a substantial amount of blood, gore, and violence in it. This is good for horror fans. Without those aforementioned elements in a horror movie, it cannot be categorized as one. I feel that there is a chance ‘The Heiress’ will further push forward the overall quality of Pinoy horror movies.

I am going on record saying that I am a fan of local and foreign horror movies and while watching the official movie trailer for ‘The Heiress’ there is that brewing sense of dread, discomfort, and danger that keeps growing and growing. And the few seconds that you see the figure of which I believe is the Mambabarang I will have to say that is one freaky, messed up, and disturbing looking thing. Soulless black eyes, sickly gray skin, veins all over her face, dirty matted sticky hair, tattered clothes. And that unholy appearance is the stuff of what nightmares are made of.

Would you want to see that thing in real life? Hell, no! The Mambabarang is like a living and breathing nightmare and that demonic entity is what the onscreen character of Janella Salvador is going up against! Can Janella Salvador’s on-screen character in ‘The Heiress’ survive or even win against The Mambabarang? I hope so.
