After Pops Fernandez’s successful US concert tour with Martin Nievera, she found time to catch up with her longtime friend, BB Gandanghari.
According to Pipay (nickname of Pops), BB is overjoyed that she landed a guest role in the Netflix series “GLOW” and is continuously auditioning for other shows. Gandanghari is no longer chasing “bahaghari” (rainbows). She’s on the way to living the American dream.
PPP entries
As of presstime, we, at the Cinema Evaluation Board, have already screened eight of the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP) entries. The festival kicks off on Sept. 13 and runs until Sept. 19. Here are my random thoughts about some of the featured films. Love is homemade, so let’s support our local films. PPP could very well stand for “Pagmamahal para sa Pelikulang Pilipino.”
“Open”: Topbilled by Arci Muñoz and JC Santos, it is a bold, brave move to tackle the whys and wherefores of an “open relationship.”
It’s a setup where even if you are committed to each other, you are both free to sleep around just for sexual pleasure.
It makes you wonder if monogamy eventually leads to monotony.
“Last Song Syndrome” stars Khalil Ramos (left) and Gabbi Garcia
“LSS (Last Song Syndrome”: It stars Gabbi Garcia, Khalil Ramos, Ben&Ben. If you are a fan of Ben&Ben, this movie is a must-see.
The band’s songs are effectively meshed with the story. The film is for aspiring musicians who are impatiently waiting for that “someday” to come.
“Watch Me Kill”: It features Jean Garcia, Junyka Santarin and Jay Manalo. I’ve never seen Jean portray a role as mean as her character in this movie.
She plays a serial killer who’s struggling with her inner demons.
The film is not for the faint-hearted.
