Edward finds Maymay ‘girlfriend material’ but…

Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber (the “MayWard” love team) get along well and can even be really sweet to each other, onscreen and off. But that doesn’t mean that they are immune to random misunderstandings.

These young celebrities do, in fact, have tampuhan once in a while, they admitted. And the amusing thing is that it’s the little things they bicker over—food, internet hotspot and, more often than not, mobile games.

“When we’re at work and we have a little downtime—like 20, 30 minutes getting makeup done—I like to relax by playing Mobile Legends. And what she would do is call my phone when she knows I’m close to winning—then ’yun, talo! Timing!” Edward related at a recent media conference for their first major show, “M.E. & U,” on Sept. 27 at the New Frontier Theater.

But as professionals, the pair makes sure to set aside—if not fully resolve—their quibbles once the cameras start rolling.

“When we have work to do, I tell him … if we could fix our issues beforehand. It’s what I’m comfortable with,” said Maymay.
The actress met Edward through the reality show, “Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky 7.”

“But sometimes, the [tampuhan] happens in the middle of work. Or work itself is the cause. And that’s what’s hard because I don’t want anyone seeing us that way,” Maymay said.

“So, as much as possible, we try to talk it out—just between the two of us—especially if it’s something personal,” she added.

One of the things the screen partners love about their friendship is that they have no qualms about being honest or pointing out each other’s mistakes or shortcomings.

“We’re straight to the point when it comes to this. It’s difficult when there’s no one close to you telling you the truth,” Edward said.

“But it’s tougher when you hear such things from someone else. You need to let go of your ego sometimes,” he admitted.

Because of the two’s genuine closeness and how seemingly comfortable they are with each other, not a few hopeful supporters and show biz observers couldn’t help but speculate—and wish—that the two are already dating in real life.

Edward did admit that he thinks Maymay “girlfriend material”—“to the point that I don’t want to see her as the girlfriend of another [person].”
But still, he doesn’t want to rush anything.

“I’m taking my time in everything I do. I don’t want to rush or feel the pressure of having a love team that’s also for real,” pointed out the British-Filipino celebrity.

Maymay, on the other hand, stressed that they’re not in a romantic relationship—at least not yet. “Right now, I’m more focused on my family. But I know he’s always there. He has become a part of my life,” she said.

The tandem is still going strong—different projects and endorsements continue to pour in for the two.
Given the fickle nature of the industry, they might soon find themselves parting ways as a love team. But they’re not too worried.

“I don’t care about that—if the love team ends, then it ends; if it happens, it happens. But don’t take that the wrong way. No matter what happens, I won’t let her fade out of my life,” Edward said, drawing shrieks and teasing from press members.

Maymay feels similarly. “He has become part of my life, and I don’t want him to go away. But a part of me also wants him to have the freedom to do what he wants to do,” said the young Kapamilya star, who recently did the fantasy series “Hiwaga ng Kambat” with Edward.

The two admitted that they still get nervous performing before big crowds, but they’re up for the challenge and want to see to it that their fans get their money’s worth.

“We want to make our supporters feel that we’re doing this because of them. They’re part not only of the show, but also of our lives. That’s why it’s ‘M.E. & U,’ because they’re the ‘U,’” Maymay said, explaining the title of the show (call 9115555).

“A lot of the suggestions and history we have had with the “MayWard” family will be shown there,” Edward added. “You can see the journey through our different production numbers in the concert.”
