Jiro Manio deserves a second chance

SOTTO. Should give TV hosting another chance.

Carl Benitez, student: “News about former child actor Jiro Manio’s impending release from a drug rehabilitation center is a welcome development for the former child actor, who was unforgettable in the award-winning film, ‘Magnifico.’ Here’s hoping that he can bounce back from this dark episode in his life.”

Pinky Tinawin, televiewer: “Rochelle Pangilinan has  crossed over from dancing to acting. Sadly, however, she isn’t successful in her role as the villainess on GMA 7’s late-afternoon soap, ‘Broken Vow.’ She should show more subtlety and restraint and discard her cardboard and ‘indicating’ style of portrayal.”

Gina Adapon, student: “Anne Curtis became an instant ‘singing star’  with a hit debut album and concert. She’s scheduled to mount the concert in Cebu and the Middle East. Due to this, Anne has been the subject of unpleasant remarks, because she is not, by her own admission, a singer.

Determination

“But, we should give her credit for her strong determination to fulfill her dream of becoming a concert artist. For Anne’s bashers, if this is any consolation, she has been quoted as saying that she’ll ‘retire’ from singing after her concert series is over.”

Leo Zamora, office employee: “Ali Sotto’s decision to resign from hosting ‘Personalan’ to attend to family matters will surely sadden her show’s followers. Ali has been successful in keeping the hurling of insults and physical altercations on the show down to a minimum. We hope that, in time, she will have a change of heart and give TV hosting another chance!”

Nadia Joaquin, graphic designer: “Local TV news reporters should learn proper phrasing when using Filipino. They often stop halfway through a sentence, like there’s a period—only to continue the rest of it. They also mispronounce some Filipino verbs, forgetting that verbs in our language may be pronounced differently when they aren’t used as nouns.”
