MANILA, Philippines — Megastar Sharon Cuneta got candid about her emotions on leaving daughter Frankie Pangilinan in New York City where she will pursue her college education.
The veteran actress opened up Thursday over her Instagram account about the heartbreak of sending off Frankie, whom she fondly calls “Kakie,” abroad for college.
“I have been getting 2-1/2 to 3 hours of sleep at night since we got here two weeks ago, and now, clearly this is no longer jet lag (though that lasted a week for me!),” said Cuneta.
“It’s all the stress and pain of knowing that in a few more days, I will have to gather all my strength to be able to finally leave her here, in this big, beautiful city – all alone without her whole family, and her friends whom she has known and loved and been loved by since 7th grade,” she added.
Cuneta and her family recently flew to New York to help Frankie settle in her new place and school.
While it is painful for the actress to leave her daughter alone, Cuneta admitted she should not be selfish and let Frankie “spread her wings and fly.”
“I am so crazy about all my children – but since Kakie’s second oldest and was born a “manang,” meaning she has always been more mature for her age, she has been for the past few years, my best friend,” Cuneta said.
She went on and said: “I miss her already. I cry every night, but I shouldn’t be selfish and just let her spread her wings and fly.”
Cuneta earlier bared turning down offers for new shows to be able to visit Frankie in New York without worries.
“I have really been declining, not even considering, offers for a new show, because I don’t want to be tied down here weekly,” Cuneta said in a recent video blog. “I want to be able to go for a couple of weeks without worrying.” /muf
