Dancer and former “Pinoy Big Brother: 737” housemate Dawn Chang said she left the girl group GirlTrends, now reinvented as GT, because she wanted growth.
Chang answered questions from fans on the first special episode of her “Brutally Honest” YouTube vlog on Aug. 25. One of the questions asked was whether she was still part of GT.
“No I am no longer part of GT. Alam niyo (you know) I’ve been dancing for 17 years now and being a performer, it’s a huge, huge responsibility,” said Chang. “I am supposed to share my talent and entertain, I am supposed to give an enjoyable and memorable experience to the audience and I feel that I am not able to fulfill those duties and responsibilities as a performer when I am with GT.”
Chang added that mastering an art takes a lifetime and requires consistent training and practice, as well as a strong foundation and discipline. She was also straightforward in sharing that she is “not on the same page” with the other girls in the group, which includes Chienna Filomeno, Mikee Agustin, Mica Javier, Sammie Rimando, Krissha Viaje, Jessica Marasigan and Joana Hipolito.
“In all fairness we have to give credit to these girls because they are trying their best, but I feel that we are not on the same page,” she said. “I’m not getting any younger, I am 30 years old. I think it’s about time for me to relieve myself from the group and start doing things on my own.”
In the end, Chang told her fans that she is excited because she is trainable, teachable and loves receiving constructive criticism.
“I want to be better than yesterday. For me, it’s not about the fame, it’s not about the fortune, it’s about the principle,” said Chang. “If one day I become a very, very good performer, fame and fortune will come next. But for now, I want growth.” Cody Cepeda /ra
