MANILA, Philippines — Actress Bela Padilla lamented that taxes being paid to officials making wrong decisions are not worth it anymore.
Padilla made the comment after news of convicted rape-murderer and former Calauan Mayor Antonio Sanchez’s possible release made headlines.
Sharing a photo with text “No to Sanchez’s Release” over her Instagram story Friday, Padilla wrote: “Nakakakilabot. Nakakawindang. Nakakatakot [nang] tumira sa lugar na posibleng mapalaya ang ganitong klaseng tao.”

“Hindi na worth it yung buwis na pinapasweldo sa mga taong mali mali magdesisyon,” Padilla added in a separate post.

Sanchez is among the 10,000 inmates that may benefit from Republic Act No. 10592, which increased the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) given to inmates.

Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Nicanor Faeldon, however, dismissed the possibility for Sanchez’s early release, noting the “violations” he committed while inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra, likewise, said Sanchez was not eligible for early release under the law which credits GCTA.

Sanchez and six of his aids were each sentenced to seven 40-year prison terms for the rape-murder of Eileen Sarmenta and murder of Allan Gomez, both students of the University of the Philippines Los Baños in 1993. /jpv
