MANILA, Philippines — Actor Rocco Nacino is the latest celebrity to join the military as a reservist.

On his Facebook page, he announced that he has enlisted himself in the Philippine Navy’s reserve force, where he hopes to make use of his nursing background.

“Sa paggawa ng trainings namin para sa Descendants of the Sun, nabuksan ng Armed Forces of the Philippines ang mga mata ko para maka-contribute sa ating bansa through being a reservist for the Philippine Navy. This is an exciting year for me!” he wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Nacino recently went through training with the Philippine Army’s Special Forces for his role in the local adaptation of Korean series “Descendants of the Sun” on GMA-7.

A report from GMA News said the actor would be given the rank of a Captain, being a board passer with a master’s degree in nursing.

“I believe na magagamit ko ang skills ko as a nurse for medical missions, physical skills in times of calamity, and my influence to inspire and motivate the youth. I am glad that @gmanetwork is very supportive in this new journey of mine. Abangan ang training videos ko soon!” he said.

On Tuesday, Nacino witnessed the welcome ceremony for the BRP Conrado Yap (PS-39), the Philippine Navy’s newest acquisition, with “Descendants of the Sun” co-star Dingdong Dantes, a reservist of the Philippine Marines.

He follows the footsteps of several actors including Matteo Guidicelli, Gerald Anderson, and Robin Padilla, who have recently signed up as Army reservists./ac
