MANILA, Philippines— “Pare, anak ko yan.”
Dennis Padilla gave those words of caution to actor Gerald Anderson after finding out about the controversy involving him and daughter Julia Barretto.
“Nag-text muna ako noong lumabas ‘yung issue. Nag-text lang ako,” Padilla recalled Tuesday during the press conference of his upcoming film “Sanggano, Sanggago’t, Sanggwapo.”
“Tapos tumawag siya, kinausap ko. Pagkausap ko, ni-remind ko lang sa kanya, ‘Pare, anak ko ‘yan.
“Yun lang. Siguro naman alam niya na ang lalim noon dahil lalaki siya,” he continued.
Padilla also shared advising Barretto, his daughter with Marjorie Barretto, to take a break from social media after the issue made headlines.

“Syempre kapag anak mo, ang una mong gagawin, proteksyunan. So ang sabi ko sa kanya, wag muna siya mag social media, magpahinga ka sa social media,” Padilla said.
Padilla said he even advised Barretto to take a break and have a vacation to keep herself out of social media.
“Ang mas maganda, magbakasyon ka muna. Sabi ko nga sa kanya kung wala pa siyang shooting or hindi naman siya gaano busy, lumayo muna siya sa social media. Hintayin muna niya mag die down ‘yung issue,” he said.
Speculations linking Anderson and Barretto began when the former’s now ex-girlfriend Bea Alonzo posted a cryptic message hinting betrayal after photos of the two surfaced online.
Anderson denied a third party was involved in his separation with Alonzo.
Barretto also denied being involved in the former couple’s breakup, saying “their issues are entirely their own.”
